Had to go put eyes on what is really going on in CO,

So jumped in the truck and landed in Sheridan.

Perfect, as I was telling people that I was going to head for Wyoming then turn left :0)

Wy is so conservative that there is little talk around here of anything cannibas related,

Have more research to do here, then heading for CO this weekend to see what gives,

Ok so I did the trip,

Was more focused on Wy, but spent a bit of time in Fort Collins and in Denver, then bailed

Fort Collins was booming, big time. New commercial construction absolutely everywhere. The dispensaries were not as prevalent as Denver.

Got to Denver, and cruised the downtown area. Basically, those dispensaries were located in old beat up commercial spaces, quickly converted into their current usage. People friendly as all get out, but the attitude was more of a hobby than a business. They were doing some business steady, but the selection was quite limited.
They all had a holding cell entry, then enter through another door to the heart of the operation retail after being carded for age, etc.

Maximum purchase at a time was 1/4 Oz in total, to include salves, lotions, sprays, bud, candy, etc. Possession in CO was up to a OZ per person. You just couldn't purchase that much at a time. A operator/tender told me that I could take it back to the hotel and come back up to 3 more times if necessary to get to the OZ max.

Moved on to the recommendations by another poster here of Green Solution and Grass Station.

Green Solution was located in the outskirts, not far from downtown. Old beat up commercial building again in a strip of commercial buildings every town has. Same holding cell entry, but once in to the sales floor, you were assigned a tender, then he guided you around the place. Open questioning and browsing seemed to be taboo. The guy was a stoner, but generally knowledgeable. They were out of much of the CB related type items, whether salves or sprays or? for typical pain reduction, or more local treatment rather than smoking. Experience was solid, with the salesman totally professional all the way thru, and continued to upsell at the end by adding a special 'baggy' for carryout and some rolling papers. Regardless, that whole bag thing he stated was required, when in fact it isn't or wasn't by the state. It was just a scam that they had come up with to generate addn'l dough on the way thru then forced it on customers by claiming it was required.

Moved on to Grass Station, and that one was located in a different area, in a commercial district. Again, with the holding cell, except this one had armed security. This was a large commercial/industrial building you see in every city. Very non-descript outside, other than the name. Poured block walls, 30' tall with a dock area and a small entrance office area. Once gaining entry, again with the tender/salesman guide. This guy was more of a stoner, but a real good guy. Lacked the professionalism of the guy at GS, but was certainly knowledgeable. Virtually the same pricing as the other well run outfit, GS. The reason I stated earlier the 'baggy' thing being a scam was borne out here, purchases were put in a brown paper bag and you were sent on your way.

The poster was 100% correct IMO in that Green Solutions and Grass Station were a cut above the rest. They had better systems in place, better personnel, and the process was more complete.

The guys at one of them told me that in CO, a dispensary had to produce 70% of what they sell. So this effectively means that they all were growers also. Whether onsite such as at Grass Station, or externally and brought in. The word there was that many commercial buildings around the Denver area had been converted to growing stations, and that some large commercial buildings were grass farms. Some of these buildings were condo-ized out to multiple retailers, while others were completely for a particular operation/supplier.

They also stated that much of their remaining products, the salves, the ointments, the sprays, the roll ons, the edibles, etc were what comprised the balance of that 30% remaining within the law. So for instance, unless someone was completely producing their own salves, they could not have a facility that was devoted to this type of med treatment, due to the 70/30 law. Everyone I saw was predominantly weed/bud, of which their name that they all were using was 'flower'.

There is no question that it is a modern version of the wild wild west, or a old fashioned bud rush out there. There were no mega corporations in charge, all the operations were clearly making it up as they went along. No consistency, and no flashing neon signs. All pretty hop scotch, and that was aok by me. A refreshing change from the modern monolithic crap we see in every town as one travels around the country. Everything was different and unique.

talking to one of the tenders, and no idea if true or not, but the statement was made that Marlboro is already to go once there is more market mass.

Wherein they have already developed cigarette like packs that have Marlboro across the top, and Cannibas across the middle of the pack.

In other words, monster corporations are just biding their time, waiting until it is time to pounce, then the whole thing will become something else entirely.

That day is not that far out from what I was hearing.

Worst part of the trip was going thru Iowa on the way back thru, cops everywhere on the highway, and especially on the Western I80 end.

Bud was telling me today that Nebraska was filing suit against Co for their legalization laws and the burden it is putting on them supposedly,

So this burden that Nebraska claims is the fault of CO is put there by whom? They say they have been 'forced' into greater levels of police activity through the actions of CO???

My answer to Ne? Shut up and sit down, those drugs are already coming into your state from all directions, and it has nothing to do with CO.

I wish I had been with you it sounds like a fun trip and yes it is the wild west in Colorado in the weed industry.. Lots of mom/pops family owned businesses. I posted some links to big tobacco articles below. I would not worry about big tobacco I would be more concerned about Monsanto and the GMO seeds they making. I will make separate post about this and what it may mean? Very nice post about your trip and nice pics.
